All of my various Writings... I wish there were sub-folders, I'd sort these into essays, stories and poetry... I suppose I could make a folder for each, but this is getting to be enugh of a task... and who knows, maybe you came here looking for a poem, and will read an essay along the way...one can only hope.

Balance of Power
Balance of Power
A being torn in two,
at war with myself.
Why do I fight? Why do I try?
Is anybody even listening?
Everything is taken to extremes -
Extreme in moderation.
Charred remains...
Don't smell the odor of my burnt soul.
Still smoldering from the fires of your hatred.
The real question is: which one of me do you despise?

A Comparison of Windows Versus Linux Architecture
A Basic Comparison of Windows and Linux Atchitecture.
Note: this is not meant to be an in-depth explanation of either Windows or Linux or their respective architectures. Rather is is meant for people with little knowledge of either, or who only have knowledge of one, to understand why these two are so different (and I admit to some bias in favor of the Linux concepts over the Microsoft one.)
The Basics:
If you know Windows, then you may have a general understanding of most of this information, but even if you are a long time Windows user, you may not know much about the internals of how it works, so this may help you.

Star Trek: Generation X
Star Trek: Generation X
By Charles E. Kunkle Jr. (a.k.a. fraterchaos)
Prologue
The Kazon-Ogla ship "Far Reach" slowly approached the coordinates. If the information they'd stolen from the U.S.S. Voyager was accurate, this was the place. The spacial anomaly before their viewscreens was a rupture, a doorway as it were, into something called "Fluidic Space". And if the Kazon scientists were correct, that doorway could become a 'shortcut" to other quadrants of the galaxy. Too long had the various Kazon tribes been at war with each other and all their neighbors. Opening an entirely new quadrant to explore and exploit could change everything fo

We Are NOT Confused!
Dear Republican Party, in re: your recent "rebranding efforts"
First of all, let's get sopmething straight, NOBODY is confused about your policies! We all KNOW what you are trying to do, and "a better way of explaining" isn't going to change anything.
Women oare NOT confused. They understand full well that taking away their reproductive rights, forcing them to have their rapist's babies, and not being paid equally is NOT good for them, and there is no way of stating it that will make them believe it IS good for them.
Latinos are NOT confused. They understand that you don't want them here. You cannot make "self deportation" sound like a goo

My Top Ten Favorite Linux Apps
My Favorite Linux Apps and Add-ons
Here are a few items that I normally install on any Linux Computer I use...
1) Compiz... This Comnpositing Window manager gives you so many cool effects and ways to tweak your system that I feel lost without it. While it is only suitable for fairly recent hardware, and works best with a good graphics card with a fast GPU and lots of dedicated RAM, once you meet those requirements, there's nothing else like it. It can be tricky to set it up, but there is a wealth of information online for nearly every distribution of Linux and how to install Compiz and get it working (assuming your distro didn't come with i

10: Loads and loads of free, open source software.
To paraphrase a recent advertisement, "there's a free app for that!"
Just about anything you need, any type of software, you can find a completely
free version, in many cases, superior to what you have to pay for in
Windows. Libre Office is 100% MS-Office compatible, and free. Shotwell and
KDEnlive are video editors nearly as good as Adobe Premier, and far superior
to Windows Movie Maker, The GIMP is at least as good as Photoshop, and the list
goes on and on and on.
9: Never having to Defragment a Hard Drive again!

So, you're thinking about trying Linux...
Lately, as most of my watchers and friends here know, I've been extolling the virtues of Linux far and wide, and evidently it is making a few people out there consider using it. So, I wanted to put down a few comments and tips that might help those who are considering such a thing.
The first thing I think you really should be aware of, you can try Linux without changing ANYTHING on your computer. Do a little research, watch a few Linux videos on YouTube and choose what distro (distribution) you'd like to try. (I'll give hints and tips about good crossover from windows versions in a bit)

My Thoughts About The Election by fraterchaos, literature

My Thoughts About The Election
We have just seen, in the United States of America, the first mixed race African-American and Caucasian President re-elected for his second term. I believe this election sends a number of clear messages and I feel it behooves us to understand what these messages are.
First and foremost, what I would call the most important thing the Republican Party should learn from this is that you cannot infringe on the rights of citizens. If you try to take away the rights of women, of immigrants, of people with alternative lifestyles, you will continue to lose. This is the Twenty First century guys... things have changed, and you REALLY need to g

What Cost Semantics? The Politics of Disrespect.
What Cost Semantics?
The Politics of Disrespect.
In the second Presidential Debate, there was a point at which President Obama informed Mitt Romney that he was incorrect about his claims in regards to what exactly The President had said in the Rose Garden the day after the Libya attack that killed four Americans.
According to Mr. Romney, the President never called this incident an Act of Terror. Unfortunately, that is exactly what Mr. Obama had said. And in telling Mr. Romney he was not stating the truth, Mr. Obama refrained from actually using the term liar, giving Mitt the benefit of a doubt that perhaps he had simply made a mistake.
It's less than 25 days until the United States will go to the polls and decide who will be President for the next four years. While much has been said, by polls and pundits and outright big mouthed, small brained idiots about who will win, I personally remain confident that the American people will make the right choice, and re-elect President Obama.
I assume there may be a few that will take exception to my saying that... but let's just put that aside shall we? I don't wish to present arguments here about who is or will be a better leader, not at all. Instead I am writing this so that when all the big brains (?) are analyzing the election

Thoughts About Infinity
By Charles E. Kunkle Jr. (aka fraterchaos)
We all know the symbol for infinity... a simple figure that looks like the number 8, yet on its side... two interlocking loops, or perhaps a Mobius Strip. But how often have you contemplated the actual concept of infinity?
We tend as humans to think of infinity as something like eternity; forever. Or perhaps as something so huge that it cannot be measured, like the boundaries of the universe. But in all mathematical fact, that's not really what infinity is at all. Yes, indeed, eternity is infinite time, and the universe is infinite space, or perhaps infinite space-time, but saying that infinity is

To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
Deuteronomy 32:35
In the past few decades, we have seen much among some of the more fanatical Christian religious groups about putting an end, through various legal means, to practices they feel to be "against God". It has, in fact, become a rallying cry among the far right conservative movement that we must put an end to certain practices, such as abortion and gay marriage, because these are sinf

A Logical Examination Of The Mayan 2012 Prophecy.
By Charles Kunkle Jr. aka. fraterchaos
We are all probably hearing far more than we would wish about the Mayan Prophecy of 2012. Most people want to make it out to be a clear indication of an upcoming doomsday, and yet very few actually bother to take the time to read and understand the actual prophecy itself.
So what does the prophecy say? What does it really foretell, and should we believe it? Let's try (for a change) looking at things logically and analyzing them, rather than trying to make them fit our preconceived notions.
First off, the Mayans never predicted a "doomsday", at leas
