Trantor: after the fall

a new Mandelbulb render, with some minor post work in PS CS3

the story behind it:
In Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" books, there is a world in the center of the galaxy called Trantor, which is the home of the Galactic Empire, and it is nothing but one huge city covering the entire planet.

After the fall of the Empire, homesteaders begin tearing up the planet's metal skin of cities to expose ground to farm upon. This is my impression of what it may have looked like...
