I've been doing a lot of thinking the past few days about some of what has been going on on the political scene.

One thing that struck me was a sermon given by a black preacher in South Carolina just before that state voted to make yet another law against gay marriage... they already had more then one law against it, so of course it was of the utmost importance to spend tax dollars and waste time passing yet another one to make absolutely sure it was really, truly, completely illegal.

The Preacher I spoke of made a very good point... don't ask if you believe in the right of gays to marry... instead ask if it is right or proper for the majority to vote for or against the rights of the minority? I tend to take this idea one step further... should anyone be able, in what is supposed to be a free country, to vote on who should have what rights?

Let's just imagine another scenario... what if someone wanted to pass a law removing religious freedom? What if, majority rule were extended that far? Who is the majority then? Well, probably Catholics now, but in a few years, it will likely be Muslims. Do you want that majority passing a law that says you cannot worship in a protestant church? You may think I am being absurd here, but logically its exactly the same thing. A majority passing laws on a minority.

But honestly, its even worse... America puts itself forward as the beacon of fairness and equality to the entire world, and yet on some of these issues we actually lag far behind countries which we try to claim are not free countries! Most of the European nations have laws protecting gays, and allowing them to marry and share in the same rights (and miseries) of heterosexual marriages. How do we as Americans, stand up and say we stand for freedom and equality and self-determination when we allow a certain group of people to suffer horribly in this way?

Of course, the Religious Right tries to say we have to stop Gay Marriage because it is a sin, and God will punish our country for allowing it... I have already made a very good argument against that idea... based entirely on scripture... if you feel that God punishes people who don't actively try to stop their neighbors from sinning, you need to read my essay here:fav.me/d4uactk

Honestly, I can really only add one more thing... GROW THE FUCK UP, PEOPLE! We have so many much more important issues we desperately need to deal with, not this childish, hate filled, idiotic behavior! Wake Up! Grow Up! Stop being a bunch of homophobic little babies!

Oh and one more thing... any psychologist will tell you, if you are anti-gay, its not because you actually hate them and disapprove, its because you are secretly gay yourself, can't deal with it, and want to take out your frustration on the object of your discomfort.  Think about what you are saying about yourself the next time you act homophobic.
