A lovely tribute Charles - heartfelt and sincere...and I think it's the question we all must ask. R.I.P. to all who passed, and my most humble prayers of hope and happiness to those who remain to pick up the pieces.
Sadly though, as long as there are people like the guys at the top of the NRA who keep saying things like 'The only thing that can stop a bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun', then things really won't change. I know that those sort of sentiments are not shared by all, but as long as they are allowed to persist within a clique of powerful people, then these horrific and desperately sad events will continue.
thank you. The really terrible part is that a large majority of NRA members actually support banning the semi-automatic weapons, and the high capacity magazines, but the leaders of the NRA are really just a propaganda tool for the gun and ammo manufacturers... and what's worse, is, they use the money donated by these people who profit off all this death, to make sure we can't even have a reasonable discussion about guns...
I think if it were put to vote by every american, a semi-automatic gun ban would easily pass, as would banning the high capacity magazines...most people are smart enough to see that that would help. But because of the NRA, we're not even allowed to discuss it.
You're absolutely right, Charles...The guys at the top of the NRA and similar organisations are simply tools...ultimately to the same men who run the oil companies, the banks, the pharmaceutical companies...I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that ordinary Americans would choose to ban semi-automatics and high-capacity rounds...the vast majority of everyday folks are nice people who just want to live their lives in peace...
yes, indeed. Even my father, who is very conservative and believes nearly every word of Fox news said today that he thinks they should ban semi-automatic weapons, but he's a member of the NRA too, and sens them money when they come begging... he doesn't realize that the dues and donations the NRA gets is small potatoes compared to the huge donations they get from the gun makers.
Yes, I can't believe it either! I have known some teachers who have screws loose! Who's to say one of them might go ballistic and use their firearm against the kids!
indeed... the high school I went to was mostly rural students... it was (and is) very very large, but mostly rural... mostly white, mostly "christian"... and yet there were many many students (including me a little) that actually TRIED to drive the teachers past the point of no return.... so we arm the teachers... and kids (who really don't know better and really are not responsible) begin pushing the teacher... and thew teacher snaps and kills a whole classroom full of kids... so what do we do to stop that? arm the kids? oh yeah that will work...
