iron butterfly - a tribute to Lee Dorman by fraterchaos iron butterfly - a tribute to Lee Dorman by fraterchaos
Mandelbulb 3D 1.8.2 and Photoshop CS3

I learned yesterday that Lee Dorman, bassist for the psychedelic rock band "Iron Butterfly" had passed away at age 70... [link]

While some might argue that Iron Butterfly was barely more than a "one-hit-wonder" none can deny the massive influence they had upon the genre of psychedelic rock.

R.I.P Lee, you will be missed

This image is composed of a single MB3D render, heavily manipulated and layer with itself in PS CS 3 to create the "butterfly" and placed on one of my own sky backgrounds.

I saw Lee on his last IB tour in 2012. Glad I did. Been an IB fan since 1971.

Nice one. I was a fan back in the day. Won their 45 in a teen dance contest! (I wonder if the younger people know what a 45 is?) Anyway, here's my Iron Butterfly submitted this June. [link] I think you've seen it already, but I'm just adding to the tribute here. Thanks for sharing the information about Lee Dorman.

I loved that song! Maybe a one-hit wonder but it was one of the best of that year. By the way a friend of mine in England knew Sid Barrett from Pink Floyd. They were popular over there before they hit the USA and she knew them between '67 & '69 even before they became famous.

yes indeed, and I feel they did a lot to advance the entire psychedelic era of modern music...

wow, that is so cool... knowing Syd. I wish I could say something like that!

Thanks Violet!

She also knew The Rolling Stones and was a great friend of Brian Jones - my very favorite hearttrob from the 60's era. This gal lives in Denver CO now and we e-mail each other frequently.

If you liked him in Iron Butterfly you might also like him in Captain Beyond. The first two Captain Beyond albums are my favorites.
I think of him as the bass player from Captain Beyond that used to be in Iron Butterfly.
He was a great bass player.

I sort of thought you musty have heard it... they even did a spoof on The Simpsons where Bart substituted this song for the sheet music in church and the poor old lady that played the organ dropped dead when she finally finished playing it!
