fraterchaos map pack I by fraterchaos fraterchaos map pack I by fraterchaos
my first attempt to make a color maps pack for MB3D...

(and you can blame :iconundead-academy: because she pushed me to make it)

mostly simple gradients I made using PS CS3, although a few also have some filters run on the gradients too.

These maps are free for any and all use within Mandelbulb 3D, and I do not require that you credit me if you use them, although it would be appreciated.

Also, if you use them, and you are not someone I am watching, it would be nice if you sent a note with a link to the deviation where you used my maps... although again, i do not require it... but if you do send me a link, you're almost guaranteed to get a fav out of it :)

Just so everyone knows... these maps (as well as any maps made for MB3D) can be used as color maps, light maps, or even maps for formulas that use maps such as ABoxMapFold, or those types.

These maps are numbered beginning at 1000, so perhaps that will make it easier for people to access them, maybe they won't collide as much with other map packs that you might have downloaded...

Anyway, here's some maps, hope they are of use...

this " or even maps for formulas that use maps such as ABoxMapFold, " really ignite my interest, could you give more details ?(a link would be fine)

well, the ABoxMapFold formula has a variable called Map Number. what ever map you choose from the maps in your current map folder will affect the way the box is rendered.

Not sure if there are any links to any tutorials or anything like that... UI think I have one render I used that on...
hmm, no I was wrong, I didn't use ABoxMapFold, I used _MapTranslate... which also uses a map to affect the render... the piece is at:

I don't use MB but I want to thank you for doing this so that more Mandelbulb images will be well colored instead of just looking like deserted war zones and abandoned desert dwellings. Thank you very much!

very welcome... I'm planning to do more at some point :)

also, these can be used for other things, if you use Apophysis, you can use them with the load gradient from photo option... they can be loaded into Bryce or other 3D programs as materials... backgrounds in photo-manipulations or anything else anyone might want to use them for :)

no problem... I would guess these could even be used as gradients in Apo... one person used one as a height map in a Bryce render!

I would guess they are... I have PSP but don't really use it for photo editing or such, I mainly use the Animation Shop part... I usually use Photoshop CS3 for this kind of stuff.
Just mainly because I'm more familiar I guess...

thanks:)

well, in Mandelbulb you can either choose a set of colors, sort of like an Apo gradient... or you can use an image as a "map" and there are four ways to apply that image to the bulbs and all but one of them can also be scaled... some of the more bizarre MB renders you see, that have strange patterns of colors in squares or triangles or something, often that is because the artist used a map instead of a color gradient

At first I thought, that this is your new artwork (I mean not a pack) :)
Maybe you could try something new, like combine fractals and some sort of mosaic or cut some fractal to create sth like this [link] (the logo part) ? ;)

well, I have done a few pieces that used both fractals and 3D models, although most of that is still in storage as I slowly get my older works restored...

I have been thinking of trying to do something like a few others I have seen, creating more realistic images of real things by combining pieces of fractals... :iconr5aysheaf: does that with apophysis fractals and his work is amazing... but I seldom can achieve the exact kind of shapes I want when I'm making fractals, its more of a hit and miss process for me
