blue bone machine by fraterchaos blue bone machine by fraterchaos
Mandelbulb 3D 1.8.2

Still playing with the CondItCountSWX2 in combo with ABoxPlatinumB (among other formulas)

I thought this sort of looked like something made of bone, but blue... and a little mechanical (if machines were made of bone... and blue)

Really needs full view, there is some striking detail on the surfaces that isn't very evident in the smaller views.

You're very welcome

already seen some tuts
but my biggest problem
so far is the quality of rendering

one way to get a higher quality is to use a larger size, then shrink the final render in PS or GIMP (or other photo editing software)

Also, the settings chosen in the calc tab are somewhat important, higher DE Stops make things smoother but also more rounded... lower Raystep and Stepwidth make it more accurate, but can slow it down and sometimes lead to more random pixels. I almost never check the Normals on DE check box because that can lead to lots of pixels too.

Higher settings for Stepcount for Binary Search and Smooth Normals can also help... but again, these slow down the render. The only one that usually (not always) gives a cleaner render and either doesn't slow it down or even speeds it up is the Higher DE Stop, but again, it makes things rounder and thicker...

Sometimes it can be a balancing act, raise the DE Stop a little, lower the Stepwidth and Raystep a little, try it , if itts still not right raise DE a bit more, lower RS and SW a little more, and so on... I usually try to get a good result just by raising the DE Stop first... then if I must I'll lower the RS and SW, since they usually increase the render time.

My typical settings are DE Stop 1 (raising up to about 4 if I need to)
Raystep 0.1
Stepwidth 0.1
Stepcount 8
Smooth Normals 2

then I start raising the DE Stop, if that doesn't help enough, then I try lowering RS and SW... and I might increase Stepcount to 12 and Smooth Normals to 4 or 6 much above that and it just takes way too long

hope that helps some :)
