Ok I got a question... if we have to give rich people and big business more tax cuts, because they are "job creators"... so my question is, you've had these tax cuts for at least 8 years now, some for 11 years, and where the <bleep> are the jobs????
George Bush gave you tax cuts in 2001, and more in 2003... you have had them all this time, but instead of creating any jobs, you've lost jobs!!!!! So give me this crap about tax cuts creating jobs... what are they going to do if we don't give them tax cuts, not create even more jobs????? And why should we let the rich and corporate jackals hold us hostage?
Tax cuts at the expense of the middle class does NOT create jobs... what creates jobs is increased demand for products and services... if a business needs more workers to keep up with demand, they will hire those workers, tax cuts or no. Handing money to businesses that have no increased demand for their products destroys jobs, because instead of trying to find a way to improve and make a product people want, they can rely on tax cuts and subsidies to make their profit.
To "fix the economy" (BTW, economies are not cars or engines, you can't "jump start" them) we need to increase demand for products, and this only happens when the middle class has money to spend. If you can't afford gas for your car, and food on the table, and health insurance and all the little things one MUST have to live today, you surely aren't going to be buying a house, a new car, or that big screen TV you fantasize about.
I know nobody here will bother to read this but oh well, at least I got it off my chest.
I blame three things -- (1) overseas outsourcing of jobs and contract work because there is much cheaper labor there from people who don't "complain" about safety conditions, wages, or lack of benefits -- in other words, the immigrants aren't "taking our jobs" -- companies are giving them away to those still in their own country so that it will increase their bottom line profit. Which really just makes their Very Rich CEO's even richer. Leading to...
(2) the word "oligarchy." It is an intimate clique of Really Rich People who run the government, and they help their friends and those to whom they owe favors -- other Really Rich People. Call me cynical, but I have grave doubts that almost anyone in government seriously cares about anyone but themselves. And again, remember one has to be Really Rich to get into the club in the first place, but in order to get Really Rich, it seems you already have to be a member of the club. Closed system, or just me?
(3) partisanship. Obama has repeatedly attempted to get the legislature to pass tax cuts for the middle class and help for those who really need it, only to be called a "socialist" when he simply tries to institute some simple fairness in government spending and taxation. (And apparently "socialist" is a Really Big Insult here... who knew? I always thought it just meant that the government required its people to give half a damn about their community and their fellow citizens. Silly me. [No, not communism. Socialism. Difference. Heh.]) We have had four years of total gridlock in government because so many people seem, as Rush Limbaugh put it, much more committed to doing everything they can to see Obama fail rather than doing any good whatsoever for the country.
So, just my ranty response to your thoughts.
My father is a rampant Republican... he's going to vote for Romney, simply because he hates Obama... he originally favored Newt Gingrich in the republican primary, and it was newt himself who said "you can't trust Romney, he'll say anything to get elected>" but that doesn't bother my dad at all!
And then there is old Mitt's claim he'll "crack down on China" which is the biggest piece of BULL ever... first off, if you institute tariffs on Chinese imports, you aren't hurting China, you're hurting all the lower and middle class people here who can't afford to buy anything BUT Chinese junk... but worse still, while Mitt is running about the country spreading this lie about getting tough on China, his company Bain Capitol, which he STILL hold 51% of the stock in, is shipping an entire, profitable company to China... Sensata in Freeport Ill. made 417 million dollars in the last quarter... 417 million in three months, and that's pure profit for Bain... after taxes! But that's not good enough for Bain, oh no, they want to ship the place to China and pay those workers $0.99 an hour instead of paying Americans $17.00 an hour, so they can make even more! And as Romney owns 51% of the stock, he could stop this with one phone call, but he refuses to even talk about it, to answer any calls from the workers... and Fox News refuses to mention any of this!
I just don't understand how people can be so blind, and then, you try to explain it to them and as soon as they run out of any sort of valid argument, they call you stupid, communist, and say you don't understand the economy! If you can't actually win the argument with facts, just resort to insults and name calling!
Ah well, if we re-elect Obama, hopefully these idiots will finally shut up when things improve... and if we elect Mitt Robme, well, they will all see what a mistake it was when we have an even worse crash than the one Bush caused... or then again, perhaps they won't... my dad still says that "after people see what Obama does, they'll all miss George W Bush" some people can't see a fact even when it bites them on the ass...
Tax cuts don't help the middle class or the poor because they are not meant to. the people who believe this (tax cuts help create jobs) non sense are in my opinion functionally illiterate or lazy thinkers.
