I just felt like posting a screenshot of my desktop... or I should say, one of my six desktops (actaully all six look the same, but yeah, I have six desktops)

I'm working on a sort of Doctor Who type of theme for it... the BG I'm not sure where I found it, probably a Doctor Who wallpaper site somewhere.

At the top is Cairo-Dock, a docking program for Linux that takes the place of most of my "taskbar" type functions...the central "tab" of it shows the opened programs and can be used as a task switcher, all the other icons are various little useful gadgets and oft-used launchers for programs...left to right: Terminal, File manager, LiberOfficeWriter, GIMP, VLC Media Player, Firefox, Pidgin Instant Messaging, then MB3D (running under WINE) a clock (which will also open a calendar when clicked) a weather widget, shows current temp (and will give daily forecasts for 5 days when clicked) CPU and System monitor, Internet up and download speeds, wifi connection strength, screenshot tool, Impulse (which makes cool effects on all the Cairo-dock icons when music or sound plays) and a shutdown button...

On the right side is my Conky, which is a program that displays almost any information you can tell it to display in real time... mine shows the date and time, the temperature (again) and various stats about the computer such as processor use, ram and swap use, how full my drives are and netspeed again. As well as showing the computer's network name, kernel version and distro at the bottom. (Manjaro, kernel 3.10.17 if you're interested)

At the bottom is the standard XFCE panel (which would normally be the "taskbar" but I removed the task switching buttons and put a desktop switcher in the center, a start menu button on the far left, and some "system tray" type icons are on the far right...

As soon as i find time, I'll make a video showing some of the wonderful things my Linux/Compiz desktop can do... for now there is a crappy vid with no sound at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBKh73… which shows some of the compiz functions, but on a different desktop set-up than I have now

Anyway, that's my desktop as it exists now, wish I could show you all the compiz stuff... you would be amazed...

Very nice :D I didn't know that Conky could look like that. I knew it was configurable, but wow that's cool :D

look for conky-manager with a google search, download and install it (or you may find it in your package manger) but do the google search anyway cause on the page for conky-manager there is a theme pack with something like 78 themes to add :)

That is really neat , how about adding the Tardis ? Remember the cube you showed me spinning around ? Would you be able to put the Tardis in there ?

well, i was thinking of that, or maybe the TARDIS Console, the thing the Doctor uses to control the Tardis..

I really wish I could have different wallpaper on the inside of the cube, as i could use the same design as the inside of the Tardis (the old style, the new one would be too hard to duplicate) and the console in the middle, that would be very neat... but I still have set things up to convert either a Tardis Model or console model into an OBJ file and then it's very very tricky positioning the object inside the cube
(but yes, I am working on that)
