heads up, rant incoming

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 14, 2016, 3:38 PM
Ok, first off, let me apologize for not posting a journal for such a long time, and more so for finally posting one only to rant...

now, on with the rant...

For the past, oh I don't know exactly how long, whenever I upload new art to dA, it seems only about half of my prints (if I am very lucky) get submitted on the first attempt... I normally have to go back and re-submit at least a couple, and sometimes all of them.

Now this might not be too big an issue if I were simply submitting the same image as the main upload, but as many of you know, my displayed art always includes a border and some copyright info. I find this entirely necessary to keep people from "inline linking" to my art and then using it on their own websites, often to promote ideas that I myself am not in agreement with. I really prefer not to have my artwork used to promote various sorts of woo woo and non-scientific beliefs.

So when I am done uploading the display image, I have to then upload a much larger version without the borders and copyright text, for the Print Submission... and then I have to re-size them so they fit inside dA's rather limited size choices to avoid having them cropped...

So I go through that entire process, scroll down, and click the "Submit" button and one of two things happens: either it tries to submit immediately, or it waits a bit, seeming to be stuck, then finally starts to submit and reload the page. And here's the great part, when it submits immediately, then I KNOW that it will not actually work and I'll need to re-submit that piece. When it waits those few seconds, then it nearly always submits the first time.

So I send a bug report...

This was the response:

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting DeviantArt Customer Care.

The situation you are reporting is a known issue and has been referred to the Devious Technology Department to be resolved.

As you may expect, at any given time there are a number of known issues related to bugs on the site. We do our best to resolve them in the order of their importance based in part on the number of people affected by the issue and the complexity of fixing the problem. So we ask for your kind patience in waiting for a resolution. You may also wish to read this FAQ: help.deviantart.com/722/

Your ticket will now be set to "Solved" only because there is no longer any reason to keep the ticket open since the issue has been passed on to the Devious Technology Department as an active case.

We value your membership in DeviantArt and thank you so much for helping us track down bugs!"

As you might notice, this is what they refer to as a "known Issue"

Meaning, I'm not the only one, it's an ongoing problem, and (supposedly) they are trying to fix it...

All well and good... EXCEPT....

Here's the thing... we are almost constantly bushwacked on this site with dubious "new features" and "improvements" that seem mostly designed to appeal to the people who would like dA to become Facebook for Bronies. Now, far be it from me to criticize grown men who wish to play with little girl's cartoon dollies... but that's not really what I  (or most of you) consider art.

And we were recently asked to pay twice as much for the privilege...

I know there have been some who actually left dA because of the recent introduction of "Core Membership" and many more have simply left their "paid subscriptions" lapse, because the money just doesn't seem worth the investment... and I would have to ask, how many of these youngsters that are the only people all these "improvements" seem to appeal to, are "paying members"?

So here's my suggestion to dA Admins...

Before you add any more "new features" and "improvements" why don't you fix the "known issues" first? I'm paying far too much money to watch it go to adding more social media crap to an artwork site, while the actual "artwork features" don't even operate properly... If I wanted this to be Facebook, I'd close down my account here and just use Facebook... is that so hard to understand?

No offense to anyone, but please dA Admins... stop forcing any more "features" on us, your PAYING CUSTOMERS at least UNTIL you FIX WHAT IS BROKEN!

Rant ends.
