looking for data recovery software

hey all... anybody out there know of any good, working hard drive data recovery programs that are free? earlier today, my first hard drive crashed, not a huge deal except I had to switch out one drive and replace it with another, but unfortunately, I lost some data I wouldn't mind having back.

The worst part is, most of the files are still there (according to windows explorer) but when I try to copy them, I get a "cyclic redundancy error". So if I had some sort of program that could rescue even SOME of these files, it would really help.

I used to have a program called GetDataBack, and it worked very well, unfortunately, its not free, and I can't afford to buy a copy. But something similar, just something that can copy corrupted files, so I can rescue any that aren't TOO corrupted...

The most important things are, it has to actually work, and it has to be truely free... I don't need any of those "free to try" programs that only actually rescue the data after you buy them.

The files I need to save are mostly renders I did in DAZ and Bryce, and a few preset figures and such I made in DAZ. Be really nice not have all that work go down the drain.

Anyway, if you know of any programs that might work for me, drop me a note, and thanks :)

-*- In Memorium: Kaleikonos
Earlier today I saw a new jurnal from one of my friends:
:iconwrzeszcz:
which said:

I'll start from the beginning..

Today I've got the message in french from one of our deviantart friend's wife.

I don't know french, so I used some stupid polish-french online translator.
That was the most silly translation I could have imagine, but I understood some scary words.
I used french-english translation and the information included "...I inform you of the death of my husband...".

I couldn't believe in what I am reading..
I wish it wasn't true, but after reading a couple of times the same words in many different translators, I realize, that it is true.

I feel horrible writting this, but I think all of You, who knew him, should know.

He was ONE OF US..

I still can't believe the message

So you can imagine I was shocked...

You see Kaleikonos was a friend of mine as well... in fact he often told me I was his first dA friend...

I knew he was not well, and I had some hints that what he had was cancer, and very bad, but was never sure.

I am so saddened by this, I will miss his wonderful work and his unfailing friendship.

I thought of putting a few thumbs of his work here, but instead I will ask all my friends to please, go and view his profile page, as a sign of respect and dA love for one of our own who has gone away...

Please drop by and look at :iconkaleikonos:

A great artist and a great friend
