Well, so others have been doing this for dA's birthday, so I figured I may as well chime in. Particularly as my story is a bit different I guess.
Unlike so many of these journals I have read, I didn't find dA by looking for wallpaper, although that would have probably happened eventually anyway.
You see, I am one of those people who doesn't like being locked into having my computer operate in some way dictated by the company that made the Operating System (which likely explains why I use Linux nowadays) but back when I used Windows, I always wanted to change it, to make it unique, to make it "mine"... and changing wallpaeprs, maybe new icons or fonts simply wasn't good enough for me.
So I started messing about with something known as "Shell Replacements" which are programs that replace the standard Windows desktop, some of which opnly change it in a specific way, and others which allow the user to change and program (almost) entirely new methods of using their machines. I eventually settled on a program called "Talisman" with which I could change nearly anything about my desktop, making it look and operate in any way I wished. And in searching through the available "themes" opthers had made for Talisman, I would often decide to download the opnes I liked, to play about and modify them to my liking... many of these were not stored on the Talisman website itself, but instead linked me to something called deviantArt.
I began looking more and more at deviantArt, and created an account for myslef, mainly because I'd made a few of my own themes for Talisman and felt that would be a good way to distribute them. Then a ran across Apophysis fractal art... mainly due to the wonderful works of a deviant who may no longer be posting here, as I've seen nothing from donnalorelei
in a few years now, but that was my introduction to fractal art.
At that time, I'd been posting my Talisman desktop themes and an occasional
abstract made by just messing with Photoshop filters, but soon I was making
In or around my 6th year here, I had a problem where I had no internet for more
than a year... and when I came back, I discovered Mandelbulb 3D... and the rest
SO that's my story and I'm sticking to it... you can't prove I'm lying, I wasn't even
there, and besides, nobody saw me...
